no hesitation, no delay.. you come on just like special k

after reading the west this morning- the most sensationalist piece of journalism after al-jazeera, and entirely more atrocious.. my faith in (west) australian society has dwindled DRAMATICALLY.. Although I suspected it all along, as a collective, we are edging closer and closer to intolerance and racism. According to the poll conducted by the west.. 41% of west australians believe that the core ideals of islam are "incompatible" with the "australian way of life"..41% is a sizeable minority and i find this result completely disturbing.

I heartily congratulate all of those people who stood up for our proud heritage in this phone poll.. and now we should translate this 'quiet dignity' in our counrty into an all out attack on all non-white non-xtians. hell yeah lets go bash some arabs.. and why not some niggers while we're at it.

fucking hell. why are they even HERE when what they believe is so INCOMPATIBLE with australian lifestyle.. who even decides what that lifestyle is? Because I know the my idea of the australian way of life is entirely different to the 41% of those people surveyed by the west and i'm as white anglo as they come.

the sad and unfortunate thing about my (and others) passion on this subject, is that there is very little we can do about it. Despite claims to objectivity, the media consistently presents stories and articles that perpetuate the idea that muslims do not belong in australia.. and while this happens its entirely likely that the anti-muslim sentiment will grow in australian society.

urrgh..its so important that we stop facilitating the outbreak of this intolerance.
IN OTHER NEWS
im doing this instead of p+l study.. wooohhoooo only TWO DAYSSS..
we beat bedford and i played like a bit of a penis.
omg.. i so cant wait for leavers.

that is all.

a change to seriousness... in addressing the question of what we can do about the growth of this unacceptable intolerance in Australia.

i think this sort of attitude really questions the values and principles that we base our democracy and forces us to decide between certain values... democratic will must be respected when at all possible. however, when the "majority will" is one of intolerance, ignorance and hate then does it still command the same respect?

the answer, i feel, must be one of an unwavering no... the values of rights, freedoms, liberty and ... dare i say it... love, are the essential basis to functioning and prosperous society. to take them away in the name of freedom is surely hypocritical and fundamentally dangerous to our future.

"these three remain, faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love" - preach it people = )

FINALLY an aussie who knows what she is talking about!!! I have to say i am extremely passionate about this topic as myself, a half asian find that Australian society is INTOLERANT. Ofcourse there are the occasional good people like verity luke and simon who stand up for this kind of racism. but for the most part, Australia doesnt accept those who are different. I totally agree with the ridiculousness of how muslim societies are incompatible to australian societies. It shouldnt matter how people dress, it shouldnt matter how people speak, it shouldnt matter how people live. There shouldnt be anything that makes you less australian. People are entitled to their own way of life and still be able to live harmoniously among fellow australians. ALso, it is hypocritical to say that muslims are incomaptible to australian society beacause australia was once the land of the aboriginals, no one forced anglo saxons to start wearing leaves as items of clothing or play the digeridoo. In the same argument, you could say the anglo saxons are incompatible to aboriginal culture, which is the original australian culture. So wat exactly IS australian society? It is a society of cultural diversity, and that should be something we should learn to value and appreciate.
PS apologies for the ridicoulously long comment
